Overview§ 01
Developed for the 1978 season, the 935/78 pushed the Group 5 “silhouette” regulations to their limit. Its elongated, water-cooled cylinder-head bodywork earned the car its “Moby Dick” nickname, while a twin-turbocharged 3.2-litre flat-six produced over 750 PS in race trim.
The car’s ultra-low, slippery shape was aimed squarely at Le Mans’ long Mulsanne Straight, where it recorded speeds in excess of 366 km/h — remarkable for a car homologated, in name, from the road-going 911.
