Overview§ 01
The Type 912 is Porsche’s air-cooled flat-twelve racing engine, developed for the 917 by combining two flat-six blocks on a common crankcase. Displacing 4.5 litres initially and 4.9 litres in its final naturally-aspirated form, it produced up to 580 PS and powered every variant of the 917 through the model’s Group 5/6 career, before turbocharged derivatives took Can-Am racing to over 1,100 PS.
